  • Interior Boardroom

    Interior Boardroom

This modest interior 3d rendering of an (undisclosed) office boardroom was a trial in updated 3d workflows and increased hardware capacity. The client requested a generic look at feel for the boardroom which consisted of large table and chairs, wall art, presentation area and shelving wall units.

  • Interior Custom Residential

    Interior Custom Residential

This interior residence was produced for an undisclosed condo development. Sunlight studies were applied to simulate where direct sunlight moved throughout the day. Notice the sun shining on the wall (upper left) changing to mood of the space. This interior project was also an assessment to reveal how interior lighting interacted with direct and in-direct sunlight via camera exposure configurations.

  • Interior Bathroom

    Interior Bathroom

The interior ultra-modern contemporary bathroom is an experimental project demonstrating the remarkable capabilities of 3d renderings by using physically accurate lighting, materials and textures. Astonishingly, no post production work was involved here. This bathroom is a classic example of staged 3d rendering where the camera is fixed and any object not in frame is not created thus speeding up processing times. The trade-off being that you can not create animations with this type of modeling.

  • Family Medical Health Centre, Picton

    Family Medical Health Centre, Picton

3d renderings were created for Sandbank Homes’ proposal to redevelop a waterfront motel / restaurant to a family medical health centre. 3d interior, exterior and aerial floor plans which demonstrated the conversion were produced for marketing and city approvals. New Vray settings customized specifically for interior and exterior views reduced rendering times by four times.

  • Université de Hearst

    Université de Hearst Library Concept

This small project is a spinoff of the larger Collège Boréal / L'Université de Hearst 3d exterior renderings. These renderings were remixed a few months after delivery using new shading (Siger Studio) and software packages. A few animations walkthroughs also accompanied the static renderings. Click on the image to view the larger version to view the details such as leather, wood graining and metallic reflections. Pretty solid realism here!

  • Nephrology at Riverside Campus

    Nephrology at Riverside Campus

The Ottawa Hospital’s Nephrology program is one of the largest in Canada and offers a broad range of services to those affected by kidney diseases. These include various types of kidney dialysis, a kidney transplantation program and a number of highly specialized clinics offered at the Jindal Kidney Care Centre. This was one of the first large scale projects to use Lightscape radiosity (global illumination) and IES lighting to simulate real-world physical illumination. Actual lighting fixture information was applied to precisely simulate the lighting energy produced in the Nephrology unit.

  • Critical Care Unit Atrium

    Critical Care Unit Atrium

A sunlight study was developed for the atrium of the Critical Care Addition of the Ottawa Hospital General Campus. The two and a half storey atrium links the Intensive Care Unit block to the Operating Rooms / PACU block, bringing natural light into patient rooms and offering a warm, inviting public gathering space. The atrium space also serves as the second main entrance to the Hospital to serve the north end of the campus and an 800 space parking garage being developed in parallel with the CCA.

  • Women’s Integrated Health Centre

    Women’s Integrated Health Centre

The Riverside Campus of the Ottawa Hospital has been converted from a bedded hospital into one of Canada’s largest ambulatory care centres. Located within this facility is The Shirley E. Greenburg Centre for Women’s Integrated Health. This centre provides advice on women’s oncology, non-cancerous gynecology, family planning and sexuality. The intent of the design was to form an experience that redefined the typical hospital visit. By creating a comfortable and homelike environment utilizing gentle colour combinations and rich materials, like granite and wood, both patients and their families are set at ease.

3d rendering was deployed for mainly the waiting room area for strictly presentation purposes not conceptual design. Lightscape was used to simulate physically accurate lighting conditions in a space where there were no exterior windows. The resulting rendering

  • Retail Concept

    Retail Concept

This experimental 3d retail concept rendering was created to test point lighting to emphasize product placement. The scene is lit using a single high energy light source (the sun). The virtual camera’s exposure settings had to compromise between balancing the shadow areas vs. the lighted areas of the scene. As a side-note, this type of shot is not possible in the real world using conventional DSLR cameras as they cannot handle this sort of dynamic range.

  • West Parry Sound Health Care Centre Atrium

West Parry Sound Health Care Centre Atrium

The Health Centre offers a wide range of essential services including Acute Care, Chronic Care, Emergency and Ambulance Services, Health Education, Wellness programs and Community Outreach. The West Parry Sound Health Care Centre extensively utilized 3d technologies from concept to final design and marketing materials. The client understood the power of 3d renderings and thus heavily utilized animations to validate their final designs. These 3d renderings are over 10 years old and still look fairly current.
